Growing Up COH and Adult COH Experiences

I have been carrying around years of guilt for not going over everyday to clean up. ..

My grandmother raised us after our parents died.  Us is me
and my two siblings. I had not idea this was an issue other people were
experiencing. I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone here how painful,
anxiety-filled and isolating it is to grow up in a home where your main
caregiver refuses to throw things away, exhibits abnormal "creativity"
and hardly ever cleans up.

Thank goodness I just discovered this site tonight. I have been
carrying around years of guilt for not going over everyday to clean up. The
most filthy room is the kitchen and there is a severe roach infestation.
I try to contain the roach problem when I visit, but I'm losing that
battle as well.

Most disturbing is I see some of these tendencies developing in me, and
I fear progressive development as I age. I can remember visiting my
grandmother when my parents were still alive. The house was cluttered,
but not nearly as filthy as now.

At this point, the problem as worsened to the point that I am too
embarrassed to ask for help. I am ashamed to let anyone outside the family
see the home.
