Growing Up Stories: Story:daughter of hoarder/recovering hoarder
Growing Up COH and Adult COH Experiences

but please moms/dads think of your kids-what will they have to contend w/when you
get seriously ill/or pass away? please, take a real honest look
around-& i've told my kids
hey, when i pass away just because i liked something or something meant
something to me doesn't mean the same for them.

Relationship : daughter of hoarder/recovering hoarder

Message :

i had sent in an earlier post-saying my mom wasn't a
hoarder-my dad was.

up til about jan. '07 i liked to buy an excessive
amount of toys/clothes,etc. for my little grandson but i also bought things for
other people-which usually didn't make it to them. i bought/had alot
of different size clothes-i also bought things for myself-but
just all that accumalation-hey you only have so much space ! & then
when you add my husbands' clothes/electronic equipment, etc. buying
tendencies-we loved going to the thrift stores/yard sales, etc. to get
bargains-especially my husband-he was "greedy"- he admitted it-he
always had to have the freezer/refrigerator packed-seriously! unfortunately-that
greediness spilled over to "other" women-(that's why we split) but
after one of our earlier separations he fessed up to getting a street
walker-one of many-but what was funny in one aspect was he said she
said "how about $10 & he said no,how about $8-always a bargainer he
was...then he got one for $3...so it goes...

ANYWAY...i've said all this to say:one
of the reasons i started "decluttering" as i call it,is because i needed
to, but also because one of these days when i pass away i don't want
my adult kids to have to go through all MY junk. i don't want to put that
burden on them. so, as i said in my earlier post i went through my
home & for about 3-4 months took things to goodwill/gave to
friends or threw unusable junk out. i got rid of any clothes 16 & under cuz
i'm a size 18. if i ever lose weight then i'll go buy what i need. so i feel
alot better that my home is well on it's way to be totally
clean/organized & "decluttered."

but please
moms/dads think of your kids-what will they have to contend w/when you
get seriously ill/or pass away? please, take a real honest look
around-& i've told my kids
hey, when i pass away just because i liked something or something meant
something to me doesn't mean the same for them. please don't keep alot
of my things just because they were mine-if you really want it/can use
it-fine. but pack it all up for goodwill-won't hurt my feelings one
bit! i'm trying to make it easier on them by doing what i can NOW.
when ya get to be 50,even though i'm in good health-ya tend to look at
things differently. thanks for letting me share-is there a place where we can
share our stories/e-mail addresses so we can share our stories on a
one-to-one basis ?

I was trying to find out how to post to your story, it took me a long time to figure it out, but I found you! anyway, if you want to contact me about hoarding I am a daughter of a serious hoarder who in turn came from a family where all the female members were hoarders. you can e-mail me if you want at annamomma@yahoo.com to vent or see how we can help each other! good luck!
