Kim, I know how you feel. The same thing is happening to me at this time but the situation is a little bit different. I do have family but at this point everyone is in denial about how to handle the clean up. I think that they think if we ignore it that it will go away. I hope that someone has information for you on how to handle this because I could only imagine how hard it is for you to take care of this on your own. I am new to this site but I will keep searching the web and if I find anything that can help you I will post it on this thread. Please do not think you are alone in this because there are many people out there like us.

Hi Kim,
One of our members, Elizabeth, has desperately been trying to find resources for you....here are some contact numbers she's found from emails from different people...in case you check the website, wanted to post them for you to see--I'm not sure at this point if she is calling them for more info or not right now, but here they are in case you would like to call them yourself, too. -Donna:

-There is a company owned by Susan Campbell called "More than Moving for Seniors" in Richmond, Inc." I wonder if they might have suggestions or even for a fee assist in sorting or moving for someone who has such a hard task to undertake. Just a thought.

-Another thought is the one of our graduates did her doctoral dissertation on hoarding just over a year ago and she might know resources in town. Her name is Susan Murdock and she works for the state department of social services. Her email address is: sjm2@mail1.dss.state.va.us

-Senior Connections is the area agency on aging, serving individuals 60 and older (perhaps the uncle was an elder?). www.seniorconnections-va.org

-VA chapter of NAMI (National Assoc. for Mental Illness) also has an info. and referral service (www.namivirginia.org or 1-800-486-8264).

Hi Kim, hope you are checking the comments here...
I wrote some people on Craig's List who offer junk removal/cleaning services to see if they offer any discounted (or free on occassion!) services. I got a response from one so far:

Man With Truck:
Moving and hauling services offered. I will haul off junk from your attic, garage, shed, yard, or whatever else you need to move. Call or email me for reasonable rates. No job too small. For larger jobs i can arrange a crew of guys. Craig 804-307-2848 or cseckman73@comcast.net
References available.

His response 10/16:
I can offer discounted prices. You can call me at 804-307-2848
