They are both incredibly defensive and I don't know why this is so upsetting to me but it is.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to make the situation better??  It would really be nice to be able to enjoy visiting my parents...

Hello, I’m the daughter of parents who can’t seem to
part with anything.  Their house doesn't look as disastrous as some of
these pictures but I have a feeling that it's only because they live in a
VERY large house.  The attic, basement, and two lofts are filled with
stuff.  Of course they are neat enough to put most of it in boxes or
garbage bags but I can't understand why it's there.  If a radio is broken
I throw it out.  They put it up the attic.  There are numerous sets of
old furniture, probably 7 twin size mattresses, two broken computers.

  They even insisted that I bring home the old couches and furniture when
I moved out of my college apartment.  I knew underclassmen that would
gladly make use of it, but instead they wanted it back.  So it was
transported back from Philadelphia to Scranton, back into the half million
dollar home, and up the stairs into the loft.  Now it's buried under
mounds of clutter.  Why is it there???? 

I am the youngest of three.  All of us are successful and living in well decorated homes.  I promise
you we will never need any of the junk they are storing.  I just can't
understand why they keep everything.  Our latest argument was over my
wedding video.  The videographers shot footage from 11am until 10pm.
  They made us a beautiful video with all the best parts.  My father
doesn’t seem to understand why he can't have all 10 hours of extra
footage. 

Then there were the holidays.  This past thanksgiving I brought a
bottle of wine, half of it went, the other half they saved and tried to
serve at Christmas, both parents were angry at me for dumping it out
before the rest of the family arrived.  I just don't understand.  It’s
not like either of them ever lived through hard times. 

They are both
