we went to
a yard sale & he bought a vcr. the box was taped & the seller said it
had never been used.well, this is how people lie-we got it home & he
tried to play a tape-but couldn't because there was a tape already in it!!
but what was on this "homemade" was unbelievable-i'd never seen
anything like it before in my whole life-it was like someone had went in a
house & just dumped trash bags all throughout every room of the house !!!...

my mom wasn't a hoarder but my dad was. he liked to "keep"
newspapers/t.v.giudes (i don't think they publish those anymore)-this was
back in the 70's. and he kept old derilict cars. we lived out in a
rural community & our neighbors kept their homes/yard clear but we had
about 8 derilict cars sitting in front of our house.this was embarrassing
when my brother & i had to go to school.
one time the tiolet broke & my dad didn't bother to repair it so we had
to use a make-shift tiolet out of a bucket. also,my mom & dad had
split up years before & she lived states away & dad lived in the city (not
w/us). he'd come out once a week to take me (since i was the only girl)
back to the city to clean my grandpas apt./take me to the laundrymat &
get groceries for the week. and then he didn't want to pay the "high"
price of garbage pick-up so he had us-yes -throw the trash in back of
the house. needless to say we had a few rodent problems. oh,i could go
on & on but won't -it's too depressing ! am i "hoarder"...yes,i think i
was for a number of years.
not to the point of rodent/animal feces/rotting food or trash lying
around-but i liked-loved going to the goodwills/yard sales,etc. & getting
bargains...& i would keep/buy all these little sized clothes hoping one
day i'd go from a size 18 to a 7 overnite. it didn't help that my 2nd
husband was a hoarder as well. he had to have every inch of this house
being taken up by eletronic equipment/furniture etc.-not papers or
nic/nacs-& clothes! i've never seen a MAN so into
clothes/jackets/coats,hats,etc. !!!
but shortly after we separated in jan '07 i started "decluttering" as i
call it. not his things cause i made him take all that w/him. but
there was still alot of MY stuff i had to deal w. that i didn't really
need. for about 3-4 months i was taking things to the goodwill weekly. it
felt soooo good to have all that extra stuff gone ! we had 2 bedrooms-1
small -1 larger .the smaller one i had hoarded/stored so much that i
could barely open the door. but i'd buy alot of toys/clothes for my
little grandson & put it in there. it wasn't like it was rotting food or
anything like that-but why would he need 3 tapes of the same movie??? i
did that alot-sometimes forgetting what i had but also sometimes getting
it because it was a bargain or just in case the other
2 copies broke...oh,yeah so i had to get over that & have for the most
part.
now i
don't go to the thrift stores, etc. as much -for one thing now w/my
husbands income gone i don't have ANY extra $$$ -it all goes toward bills.
something else changed me too before my husband & i split. we went to
a yard sale & he bought a vcr. the box was taped & the seller said it
had never been used.well, this is how people lie-we got it home & he
tried to play a tape-but couldn't because there was a tape already in it!!

i couldn't believe my eyes-my husband watched a few minutes & had
enough. i still have that tape today-& watch one in a while just to remind
me i never want my house to look like that. family members had went in
there to clean it up for an elderly relative so filmed the process-they
took 3-4 of those big long dumpsters of junk out of there.
