The Institute on Compulsive Hoarding and Cluttering (ICHC) is pleased to announce that a new treatment group is starting April 28th, from 6pm to 8pm, and will be held every Monday evening thereafter for 16 weeks. This treatment group is unique because it is the first treatment group of its type that is available in the Bay Area, designed to specifically treat the behaviors associated with compulsive hoarding and cluttering. The Mental Health Association of San Francisco (MHA-SF) and Family Service Agency of San Francisco are collaborating to provide this opportunity to those individuals who meet criteria for the group. For an intake, please contact Judy Hirsch, PsyD, of the Family Service Agency of SF at (415) 474-7310 ext.483.
This treatment group is sponsored in part by a grant from the City and County of San Francisco Human Services Agency, Department of Aging and Adult Services.
For more information about this and other programs of ICHC, please visit MHA-SF's website at www.mha-sf.org.

San Francisco Support Group for People Who Compulsively Hoard and Clutter
Compulsive hoarding and cluttering is the acquisition and failure to discard a large number of possessions, appearing to be useless or of limited value, in an attempt to decrease stress and anxiety. This serious and prevalent problem can lead to eviction and homelessness. It is often a feature of several psychiatric disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention deficit disorder, and major depression, and can be cause or aggravated by problems associated with increasing age or physical disabilities.
The following are the dates, times, and locations for upcoming support group meetings in 2008...

Are you a hoarder? Ask yourself the following questions. Do you have too much stuff? Can’t even find your get organized books? Have you concluded that your problem goes beyond being disorganized? Do you want to purge your home of all of that stuff, but feel so overwhelmed that you can’t even get started? Is your clutter making you unhappy or even making your home dangerous to your safety and health?
Do you buy things that you don’t need? Save things you don’t use? Have to buy replacements for things you can’t find? Spend hours looking for lost bills, tickets, permission slips, or library books?
Are you embarrassed for people to see your home? Do you feel bad because you can’t have family or friends over because there isn’t any place to for them to sit? If you said yes to any of these questions and want to change, then this group is the place for you!
Share your fears and success stories with other women who understand just how hard it is to overcome hoarding. Develop and share your vision of what you want your home to look like. Share in a judgment-free zone where we can unload some of the emotional burden that goes with this problem. We can tackle this together!

Home-Visit Options:
The Center for Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy Suite #4 137 East 36th Street New York, NY 10016 212.686-6886 For those clients with particular subtypes of OCD, such as hoarding or contaminating, home-visits may be available to conduct in vivo flooding and exposure exercises. What this translates into is the opportunity to have professionally trained help available to guide clients through the challenging home-based exercises. Generally these exercises are conducted in a very gradual systematic approach. Research findings suggest that behavior therapy's potency is increased through greater frequency of weekly exercises, which is reinforced during the home visits with the therapist. Ultimately, these exercises, conducted in the presence of the therapist, are performed independently by the client. More services and groups offered: http://www.ocdonline.com/services.php#family
