My husband is the oldest of 7. He's tried to reason with his parents to
no avail. Some of the kids support the parents and refuse to get
involved, claiming it's not their problem. Wonder how they'll feel when
they've raised a family that's never been to Gramma's for Christmas.
It's lonely and others don't understand.
They are ill and I can't stand to be around them. We are their family
and we're worth more than an "excuse."
Interesting fact - my father in law's Mom was a hoarder. They cleaned
out her house before she went to the nursing home. She sat there with
tears running down her face. He married the same woman, obviously.

Re: Story from Daughter in law of hoarder (Score: 1) by anselmo29 on Monday, July 23, 2007 @ 07:08:16 ICT (User Info | Send a Message) | | I know what you are going through. My in-laws are hoarders. I have never been in thier house. My two children who are under 9 have never been in thier house-and we live in the same town. Every holiday or special occasion, the event has to be at our house because thiers is trashed. I have heard every excuse in the book. It was always a new excuse as to when they would 'clean out' thier house. Like when we got engaged, when we got married, when our first child was born-there is always something new. My husband and I even offered to clean it out so they could live normally, but they refused! they really make me sick. I always thought it was sheer laziness, but then I saw a show on tlc about hoarders that described them to a T. I am so glad I found someone out there that has had to deal with this first hand-I hope you write back!! |
