At a rally on the steps of City Hall, representatives from the Mental Health Association of San Francisco, Planning for Elders and Senior Action Network said two important programs have been lost from the budget.
The Pedestrian Traffic Safety Program helps make streets and sidewalks safer for seniors and people with disabilities; the groups say more than half of pedestrians killed in the city are seniors. They are seeking $180,000 for this program.
The Eviction Prevention for Compulsive Hoarding and Clutter program treats mentally ill tenants who face eviction because of hoarding. Compulsive hoarding is the leading cause of eviction among low-income tenants in the city, the advocates said. They are seeking $200,000 for this program.
