QueenB from California daughter of a Hoarder.

My Mother passed away 2 years ago now and I too have been having trouble mourning because half the time I am mad at her for leaving me such a mess to clean up!

I never knew how bad it had gotten until after she died.  My Dad said they didn't want to worry me.  I found him living in deplorable un-livable conditions!  I've been working like a dog ever since to clean up the house and make things better for Dad.  The house was infested with mice and looked like a true haunted mansion.

I never saw cobwebs that bad before, plus my Dad smokes and was letting his cigarettes fall and burn through the carpet.  It has been a nightmare.

I have made real progress and currently am working on painting the entire outside of the house myself!  It hadn't been painted in 50 years no joke! I'm now 43 and it never was painted my whole life.  I always knew Mom was messy and Dad was just lazy but man did the house go down hill.  I had no idea it was horrible!

The junk, trash, smelled like cat pee and mice droppings so bad everywhere, along with boxes and boxes of stuff!  I have made it through most of it and still trying to paint inside and out and clean out things for Dad.

He has helped a little but being the only child, everything fell on my shoulders.  I planned the funeral, etc.  Dad didn't even know how to pay bills.  Thank goodness I have a wonderful husband, and two sons who help me when they can.  Sometimes they get mad that I help Dad so much.  Mom always did the "it might be worth something some day" or "I might need it" or was afraid of me throwing things away.

I can understand everyone's stories and relate.  I hope to make some new friends and hopefully help someone if they need it.  I'm making it somehow....nice to find this site.  Write me QueenB from California.
