PostPosted: Wed Feb 13, 2008 3:26 pm    Post subject: Hoarding intervention and help for crisis Reply with quote Back to top

Hello,

My name is Liza and I am a televison producer. I am working on a documentary that will help horders battle their dysfunction and shed some much needed light on this subject.

We are looking for someone in a crisis situation that really needs help. Perhaps the house is about to be condemmed or the individual will be evicted or risks losing a loved one...either way, this person must make changes, and has a supportive family or friends that wants to help them along the way. We will provide a therapist to help the person get treatment as well as pay for a clean up.

If you are someone who needs help or know someone who does, please tell me your story at helpforhoarders@gmail.com

Sincerely,
Liza

Hey Liza! Thanks for posting.

I'm one of the moderators around here. Some questions for clarification might help us understand what you are looking for.

1) Are you looking for a situation where the hoarder wants help? This is as opposed to the family wanting the hoarder to get help?

2) When you say, "risks losing a loved one", are you referring to losing as in "they are going to walk out of the hoarders life and never speak to them again", or losing as in "the hoard is so dirty and nasty that it is causing life threatening illness in another family member"?

If you come back to check on your post, and could answer these questions, it might help the COH here know whether they want to respond to your offer.

Either way, thank you very much for any light you can shed on this issue.

Thank you for the questions on this posting norse701. My answers below...

1) We are definitely looking for a situation where the hoarder wants help, but are open to working with a family member who wants to offer help to a horder. What we don't want is to clean out someone's house and create a major crisis for that person. We want the hoarder to be fully involved.

2) When I say, "risks losing a loved on", I mean the loved one is going to walk out on the hoarder's life unless they seek help because they can't stand to live like this anymore.

I hope this helps, and please let me know if anyone has other questions.

Liza

Thanks Liza. I think that helps clarify things a lot. Anybody out there interested?
