NAPO Wisconsin September Meeting Topic: Compulsive Hoarding;

From Child of Compulsive Hoarder to Psychologist: One Woman’s Journey Out of the Ashes


Speaker: Rhea Steinpreis, PhD, SAP, Licensed Clinical Psychologist of Empower Counseling of Milwaukee, LLC

Join us Wednesday, September 10 as Dr. Rhea Steinpreis will share her experiences growing up in a household head by a compulsive hoarder. She will discuss the current status of the behavioral sciences current framework in which compulsive hoarding is seen. Dr. Steinpreis will also share the results of a recent intervention and cleanup of one of her compulsive hoarding clients.

Date: Wednesday, September 10

Time: 10:30 Registration, 11:00 Meeting Starts
Location: Country Springs Hotel, 2810 Golf Road, Pewaukee
Directions:

From Downtown Milwaukee: Go west on I-94 (to Madison) approximately 20 miles to Hwy. T, turn right. Go 1/4 mile to Golf Road, then left (west) on Golf Road about 1 mile to the Country Springs Hotel.

From Madison: Go east on I-94 to Hwy. G (Exit 291). Go north on Hwy G to Golf Road, then right on Golf Road about 1/4 mile to the Country Springs Hotel.


Meeting Fee: The meeting fee is $15 per meeting for members. Guests may attend up to two meetings for $20 per meeting. The guest fee after two meetings is $30 per meeting. The cost of lunch is included in the meeting fee.
Dress: Professional business attire requested.

About Rhea Steinpreis

Dr. Steinpreis did her undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1984. She attended the University of Connecticut-Storrs for her masters and doctoral work. She earned a joint doctorate in clinical psychology and neuroscience in 1993. From 1993-2001 she was a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she became the first woman in the department to receive early tenure. During her academic career she published over thirty research articles in the field of psychopharmacology and the treatment of women in science. Her research has been written about in Discovery Magazine and the Washington Post. Eventually she left academia and spent a few years at home with her toddlers before returning to private practice as a licensed clinical psychologist. She now owns her own practice called Empower Counseling of Milwaukee. She works with such diverse issues as Attention Deficit Disorder, Depression, Immigration Issues, Couples Therapy and Compulsive Hoarding.
