PostPosted: Fri Aug 29, 2008 3:40 pm    Post subject: Oprah Show - Looking for The Messiest Master Bedroom! Reply with quote Back to top

The Oprah Winfrey Show and clutter expert Peter Walsh are currently looking for the Messiest Master Bedroom in America!
We're looking to help someone declutter their master bedroom -- and we'll be doing it soon!

Please email us at oprahshowgs@oprah.com

Here's a few things we need to know:

Are you willing to have Peter Walsh, Oprah Show Producers, and camera crews in your home for at least a week within the next month?
Do you own your home? Or do you rent?
What are the dimensions of your bedroom?
Is there a connecting bathroom? Walk-in closet?
How long has it been this way?
Is your master bedroom the only room in your house that's messy? And everything else is spotless?
Why do you think your bedroom is such a mess?
Do you have emotional attachment to all of the "stuff"?
Did something happen in your life, maybe something in your childhood that makes you want to have such a messy bedroom?
Are any of your other family members like this?

Are you married? How long?
Have children?
What do you and your spouse do for a living?
Have pets?

Tell us everything!!

In addition to the questions above, please include in your email (oprahshowgs@oprah.com) photos of your master bedroom!! -- the more the better!
Also, please include a family photo and/or a photo of yourself.
You can also give us a guided video tour of your home/master bedroom and send it to the address below!!
Please include your contact information.

Don't waste any time... we need this ASAP!!!
We may be calling you!

Thanks again!

Kind of insensitive to post this here if you ask me, in support forums for family and friends watching loved ones suffer from compulsive hoarding who refuse to accept our help so we are forced to watch them drown in the physical manifestation of their mental disorder...only so we can clean it all up later for them financially, emotionally, when they are in a crisis or die. (Or, get the authorities involved so they can live,simply...safe.)

Messiest room singular? You've posted in the wrong place... you will probably get many interested in this show, but they won't be the kind of family members we are dealing with here, surrounded by cloaks of secrecy and shame.

I hope the show will be a sensitive one.

Well said, Donna. tvguy (clearly a media troll or something) should stick to his mtv version of 'real life'.

I'm so glad this post was repsonded to. I didn't trust myself to do it. It instantly pissed me off.

I absolutely understand if anyone's interest was piqued, and they want to take advantage of the one-room clean-out and make over. Hell, anything to make progress, and who knows- it might inspire the hoarder to continue the effort. But I doubt it.

In my opinion and personal experience, the mind-numbing compulsion to acquire would be triggered and the hoarder's brain would be trying to figure out how to keep everything in the hoarded room AND get all the shiny new stuff.

I'm disappointed that someone as respected as Oprah would allow this type of drive-by-the-scene-of-an-accident sesationalism connected to her name. Whatever gets the ratings, I guess...

Perhaps someone should invite Oprah to join the CoH group, so she can read some of the personal stories and not sensationalise the issue. Maybe then her "peeps" would show some sensitivity to a serious & personal issue such as growing up with Hoarding!

Oprah has done a couple show on hoarding. Her most recent was:

"Inside the secret lives of hoarders."
11/15 & 11/16/2007
http://www.childrenofhoarders.com/coh38.php
(you can view comments from people about the show there too)

In this show, Oprah was compassionate to what the COH go through and at the end of the show she sincerely said that she "humbly applauded" the 3 COH on the show for taking action to get their parents the help they needed.

So that's not the issue for me here, but rather that a respresentative from her "Hoarding Team" or Peter Walsh's organization excitedly posting this solicitation (which may or may not be regarding the serious compulsion of hoarding) in these forums where I feel it is very inappropriate, given the audience.

I have to say that my "evil twin" was having a field day with the thought of Oprah & her camera crew showing up, unnannounced, at my mother's house. Would my mother let Oprah in? Would she keep Oprah talking on the front step? Would she chat blissfully, as tho nothing was amiss? How would she try to explain the state of her house, her life to Oprah (whom she adores, well, every second day anyway...)? Would she even think she had anything to explain, this IS her norm after all? Would she let Oprah's crew clean her house? Would she try to give Oprah a "gift" from the Hoard? Would Oprah even touch the gift? Oh no no no

Ahhhh, fantasy life can be so good! But, as I'm thinking these thoughts, my guilt kicks in... I begin to wonder how Oprah & her camera crew showing up on the door step would affect my mother? Sigh..... I guess it's a good thing that I don't let my "Evil Twin" out very often, eh?

I too LOVE the smash 'n bash of the backhoe idea! I have dreamed of being the DRIVER of said backhoe! But, alas, my mother's house is a Row-House attached on both sides to two other houses, and four more beyond that. Backhoe's and simply burning the sucker down, just isn't a good idea.

But, you kno, perhaps the neighbours would be PLEASED to sacrifice their homes just to get rid of my mother's smelly-squallor house! Hmmmmm, she pauses to contemplate this new & exciting fantasy....... smiling
