Do you think alot of that could be learned behavior? I can see it with my family. The whole focus on work ethic thing, and following the lead of the family patriarch, Operant conditioning... your thoughts?

Hmm, I think the problem with so many mental disorders is that it's often something normal- gone awry. Work ethic, patriarchy, good things, in moderation. But, when it's created a 'disturbance of daily life' it turns into it's own giant monster.

I agree. A little OCD can be very helpful in doing some things exceptionally well. I've also heard that BiPolar people can be very successful in their "Manic" phase, and they drop out of sight when depressed so people don't see it. Both these can be crippling when taken to extremes, needing medication, therapy, etc.

Mom used to say there was a fine line between genius and insanity.
